Uta Pippig, Three-Time Boston Marathon Champion, Takes Whirlwind Boston Tour

Boston, MA, April 13, 2007

Runners in the Boston Marathon will see the familiar face of an international champion on Monday as they gather before the race at the starting line in Hopkinton. Uta Pippig, three-time Boston Marathon champion, will make her rounds this year, dispatching inspiration and advice to runners before they take on the challenge of a lifetime. Her schedule also includes appearances and media availabilities at the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Team’s Pasta Party, and the marathon finish line.

WHO:Uta Pippig is the winner of three consecutive Boston Marathons, three Berlin Marathons, one New York City Marathon, and competed in two Olympic Games. She is also Founder and President of both Take The Magic Step, the trademarked health and fitness program which helps people achieve healthy living goals, and Take The Magic Step, LLC, a recently formed, philanthropically-focused corporation. This new entity is also guided by Uta.
WHAT:Uta will be in Boston throughout the weekend and early next week. In addition to her activities directly with the marathon, she will also be continuing her work with the NOVA/Tufts Marathon Team for the upcoming PBS NOVA documentary, “Marathon”. For “Marathon,” Uta has joined forces with the PBS NOVA film team to track and provide real-time commentary, critique, and motivation to a small group of first time marathoners. “Marathon” will air on PBS in Fall 2007. Uta’s schedule in Boston also includes motivational speeches at pre- and post-marathon charity events, including the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Pasta Party and a brief “Hello” delivering her motivational insights to fans, runners, and others at the marathon finish line.
