Pippig to Become Member of Advisory Board

Three-time Boston Marathon Champion Uta Pippig today announced she has accepted an invitation to become a member of the Advisory Board at the MIT AgeLab. The announcement follows Pippig’s victory in her first race as a Master at the Ollie Road Race Sunday in South Boston where she won handily with a time of 29:03, a full half-minute ahead of the next Master runner.

“I am honored and excited that MIT has extended the invitation to join this distinguished group,” said Uta. “The AgeLab does wonderful things to improve people’s lives and I am impressed with their accomplishments and ongoing work that brings innovations in fitness and health to the aging community.”

The MIT AgeLab was created in 1999 to invent new ideas and creatively translates technologies into practical solutions that improve people’s health and enable them to “do things” throughout the lifespan.

“We are thrilled to have Uta on our team,” said Joseph F. Coughlin, founding director of the MIT AgeLab. “As an elite athlete, she brings a unique perspective to the AgeLab and we expect she will provide valuable insight to our global team of researchers and other strategic partners to design, develop and deploy innovations to improve quality of life for the aging community.”

The 50-plus population is the fastest growing segment worldwide, and the MIT AgeLab seeks to address the demands of this population and seize the opportunity to invent the future of healthy, active living.

When not in training, Uta plans to dedicate time to AgeLab activities. She is also focused on sharing her knowledge of proper nutrition, yoga, exercise, training and stress management through her Take the Magic StepTM program. This multi-tiered approach to healthy living is targeted towards small groups of individuals, corporate groups and has helped many people.

Uta has been one of the premier athletes in the sport throughout here running career – becoming the first woman to win three consecutive Boston Marathons, three Berlin Marathons, a New York City Marathon and a two time Olympian. She plans on building on that success as she begins competing in the 40 and over Masters category. For more information on her Take the Magic Step program visit her at www.takethemagicstep.com.
