Uta Pippig, whose legendary running career resulted in several major international marathon wins, #1 world rankings, world championships, and the Olympics, is the founder and president of Take The Magic Step, LLC and co-founder of the Take The Magic Step Foundation.
Born in Leipzig, Germany, to parents who were both physicians, Uta was introduced to competitive athletics at 13 when a classmate invited her to join a local running club. After passing her final exams (“Physikum”) as a medical student at the Freie Universität Berlin, she decided to re-focus her attention exclusively on running professionally.
Uta subsequently became the first woman to win three consecutive Boston Marathons. She also claimed three victories at the Berlin Marathon, which included the “Reunification Marathon” in 1990 that spanned from West Berlin through the Brandenburg Gate into East Berlin. Uta’s victory in that historic run came just months after she left Communist East Germany to live in the United States.
During the 1990s, Uta achieved worldwide recognition after she won the New York Marathon, competed in the Olympics, established new world bests, and captured the #1 ranking in the world in both the marathon and half-marathon.
After becoming a U.S. citizen in July 2004, Uta’s characteristic passion, discipline and commitment enabled her to launch Take The Magic Step, LLC, which she considers to be “the pinnacle achievement” of her life. “I owe my deepest gratitude to the many people who contributed their knowledge, support, and inspiration to me over the years, allowing me to persevere with the development of this organization.”
In 2005, Uta was named to the Board of Advisors of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (“MIT”) AgeLab, which was created to “invent new ideas and creatively translate technologies into practical solutions that improve people’s health.”
In April of 2008, Uta and Take The Magic Step business consultant Michael Reger created the Take The Magic Step Foundation to provide support to organizations that promote wellness and education.
Today, Uta divides her time between Take The Magic Step’s operations in Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, New Zealand, and Germany.
